CREW and CYC joined forces ..... teaching young middle school aged girls about Commercial Real Estate.  The project started out by playing a game of Jeopardy, learning different terms used in the Commercial Real Estate industry.  This also gave each team a chance to earn money allowing them to buy a parcel of land to be used in developing a neighborhood park.

With money in-hand each team negotiated to buy their parcel of land and started to conceptualize their park development.  Buying items needed for a park such as playground equipment, swimming pool, and art features - all this with staying under Budget!  After building their model park, each team had a chance to present their perfect dream park to the rest of the class.

These girls have some great ideas!  Below is a quote from our CREW President Michele Stevens.

It was wonderful to see them working together, planning and presenting their designs to the class.  I loved it when one of our girls said, “But what about our budget?”

The 4 week session ended with a pizza party at the Walker Johnson Park in Urbandale.  There the girls met with the Urbandale Park Director Jan Herke, giving them realization that girls can work in any industry.

The CREW woman that took time out their schedule to participate in this great program are listed as follows – Jennifer Schumann, Jackie Nickolaus, Carrie Woerdeman, Michele Stevens, Britni Andreassen, Cynthia Eddis, Cheryl Moore, Maddison Roberts, Kristin Blackman, Christine Sullivan, Karie Kading, Brittany Freund, Cathy Kerr, Ashley Aust.

It makes me very happy that we can make an impact on these girl’s lives.  Whether they grow up to be a part of the commercial real estate industry or not, I know we showed them that they can be strong, independent women who can do anything!
